This was our first gig after returning from our well earned Christmas Break and what better place to be to start off the new year than at Woolston over 55's Club. It is such a pleasure to entertain such a really appreciative audience and we look forward to our every visit to this well organised and well supported Club

Ockford Senior Citizens Club
Ockford Social Club Surrey
1400 hours until 1800 hours
PRIVATE FUNCTION
It was the first time for many years that they had organised a Christmas Party for the Clubs Senior Citizens and the committee were a bit apprehensive as to how it might go!! They had no need as it was a fantastic afternoon where we could do no wrong. Everybody who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves to the point that, if we aren't rebooked for next years Party, we will be most upset.

Back to Woolston after only seven days due to the singer / guitarist having lost his voice completely with the virus that seems to be bombarding everybody in the South of England. Because we were standing in for another act we decided to play some tracks from the artistes CD. They were very well received and all went well with everybody going home contented.

Julie's 40th Birthday Party
Post Office Club - Portsmouth - Hampshire
2000 hours until 2300 hours
PRIVATE FUNCTION
After a very long discussion on the telephone we eventually, reluctantly, took the above gig. Our main worry was that some of the audience might be too young to fully enjoy our performance - It was not a problem as they were all 1950s, 1960s and 1970s music lovers. It was one fantastic evening finishing with many kind words of thanks and a tip from the Birthday girls Father.

Saturday 29th January 2005
Masonic Ladies Night
Brinsbury College, Pulborough, West Sussex
2000 hours until 2230 hours
PRIVATE FUNCTION
This
was a very enjoyable evening, apart from the fact the dinner was being served in a
separate, very small room away from the better, larger room where we were asked to set-up.
Despite
our advice, we were booked to finish at the early time of 2230 hours!! This was
ridiculous as The Meal, The Speeches, The Wine Auction and The Draw finally ended at 2240
hours which was 10 minutes after we were contracted to finish our performance .....
Being
Professional Entertainers we decided to carry on, at no extra charge, until 2315.
This gave the members and guests a chance to get up on the dance floor and boogie on down
for a little while. Over all it was a fantastic evening for us, and the many kind
comments we received told us that the evening was a total success despite the lack of any
good organisation.

A long but enjoyable evening..... The audience were made up with quite a few 20 to 30 year olds, which made our job a little more difficult with us being a Golden Oldies Outfit. Never the less, we triumphed eventually. The Home Club is about a good a venue as it gets with friendly, helpful staff and some of the finest Chefs in the world providing excellent cuisine.

A Surprise 60th Birthday Party
plus 40th Wedding Anniversary
Fareham Masonic Club
Queens Road - Fareham - Hampshire
1930 hours until 0000 hour
Both Ron and his lovely wife thoroughly enjoyed themselves and, as always, we had lots of nice comments at the end of our performance. Nevertheless, it was a long night for us. We had a small number of unsupervised children who seemed to want to do there utmost to cause disruption to their Grandparents Function. Being professional entertainers we have no trouble in rising above such things but what we have no power over is getting people on the dance floor when it is being used as a joint football ground and race track. Phil tried reasoning with the Children but to no avail. Apart from some sporadic dancing during the rare times the children weren't causing mayhem on the dance floor, it was a sit and listen evening. At the start of the evening one of the family had told us that he would probably be booking us for his 40th Birthday party later in the year, depending on what he thought of performance. At the end of the night Phil was quite embarrassed when he informed the guy that we wouldn't be interested in taking the booking as the thought of another evening faced with unruly, unsupervised children somehow didn't have any appeal for either of us. HOWEVER, we took two bookings on the strength of our performance above so as we have said a million times before "WE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT"

Milford Social Club
Church Road - Milford - Surrey
2030 hours until 2330 hours
EVERYBODY WELCOME
Milford Social is such a fantastic club filled with really nice people - It was one of, if not, the best gig we can ever remember and all too soon the clock on the wall told us that we had to finish. The fly on the ointment was the interfering Steward and his equally interfering wife!!! - We believe that, as Professional Entertainers we are there to Entertain and Stewards should do what they are paid to do and not try to tell experienced professionals where to unload and load.. We were so incensed with the whole episode that we decided we would not be returning to the club if asked!! Nevertheless, we have been contacted with reference a 65th Birthday Party at the club and have decided to give it one more try.

Phil had to go to Birmingham at 0530 hours and Nikki and Alistair (her neighbour) stood by just in case Phil had to go straight to the venue. Of course, as always happens in these cases, Phil was held up with a seriously bad diversion and the telephone call came to say that he would go straight to the venue. He arrived just in time to grab the microphone and start the show and what a lovely reception we had. We could do no wrong and the time just seemed to fly by. Roll on next month we say..

Charlotte and Francis's Wedding Reception.
Avenue St Andrews Church Hall
The Avenue, Southampton, Hampshire
1900 hours until 2200 hours
PRIVATE FUNCTION
A very friendly and jovial crowd who were having the speeches when we arrived. This meant a short pause before we could enter the venue and set-up. Having been at the venue since 1530 hours they were surprisingly lively and danced to almost everything we threw at them. As the vast majority had come from far and wide, understandably, they started to drift off at around 2100 hours which left us with about 18 people when we played our last song at 2200 hours. It was different!!!

Give us an audience and we will entertain them.

65th Birthday Party for Ralph Jenner
Milford Social Club
Church Road - Milford - Surrey
2030 hours until 2330 hours
EVERYBODY WELCOME
Milford Social Club is a beautiful Club filled with lots of really nice people! There are signs on all four walls to informing Parents that "CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE DANCE FLOOR AFTER 9:30". This rule was not enforced at all and so the majority of our dancers just didn't, just in case they accidentally knocked a child over. Just a quick mention also, of the three or four people that were propping up the bar, blind drunk, using foul language and very intimidating. They where there when we arrived to set up at 1830 hours and were still continuing to be served until they finally left at about 2230 hours. We decided that we would not be returning to Milford at any time in the future and on our return home we gave notice to that effect to the interested parties. In our early days we have played some of the roughest pubs in the land but none were anywhere near as intimidating as we felt at the above gig.

What a lovely night we had entertaining a full house of Members and guests. All seemed hell bent on enjoying themselves despite the temperature being well over 70 o F. This was our first outing with our new, smaller. set-up! The new set-up is an additional one to enable us to now be able to accept gigs upstairs and also to be able to set-up in a much more compact way when required. There were three young children present, who were perfectly supervised so as to NOT be able to spoil their Grandparents Special Evening. Jean and Bernard, their family and all who were at the White Swan Hotel were just too good to be true. Although it was a long time before they got the hang of what was occurring, eventually it became an evening that most entertainers can only dream of.

Schat - Harding Annual Christmas Party
Thorngate Halls - Bury Road - Gosport - Hampshire 1900hrs until 2345hrs PRIVATE FUNCTION This was the second year we have entertained at this Function and what a fantastic evening it was. Most of the guys went to the bar and stayed there whilst the girls came onto the dance floor and stayed there. All to soon the evening was over and it was time to pack up our equipment and wend our way home. Part of the contract was for two meals to be provided which didn't happen so it was a case of drop Nikki home and off went Phil to the local Kebab shop until the early hours of the morning... and he can't understand why he isn't losing any weight!!!!! Someone please tell him.......Please....!!!![]()
The Club, The Steward and all the staff were so very nice and helpful and enjoyed
everything we did, as did the majority of the audience. Sadly the three idiots, plus their families, sat at the nearest table right in front of us and did there best to be as loud and objectionable as they possibly could. Being professional we rose above it and continued to put on our knockout show. At the end of the evening the chief idiot, who we believe was named Dave, came up and said how much they had enjoyed us, adding that they always try to goad the entertainment but in our case they hadn't succeeded. Phil was very diplomatic in telling them that they had in fact spoilt the evening for us with their incessant taunts and constant moans and that, due entirely to them, we would not be coming back to the club under any circumstances. It was very sad when Judy, the booker, came to book us for next years party. We felt it best to tell her the facts and she was extremely hurt although not surprised as she was well aware of the three idiots from previous experiences.. It is a great shame when a small minority of mindless idiots take it upon themselves to try their best to wreck a function, and it was their own function, but that seems to be the way the world is progressing at the moment.Oh Yes,
and the age of these the three idiots! They were 60 year old, grown up Adults who should have known better.![]()
