Saturday 7th January 2006

Southern Self Drives 2004 / 2005 Christmas Dinner Dance

The Hilton National Hotel - Farlington - Portsmouth - Hampshire

2000 hours until Midnight.

Private Function

It was a very laid back evening in what must be the smallest room we have ever had the pleasure to work in.  This didn't stop anyone from having a very enjoyable evening, with many kind comments at the end of our show. All of the personalised request booklets we put on the tables were written out and brought up to us - This was a first for us, usually only about 5 % manage to be used.

Monday 23rd January 2006

Masonic Dinner Dance

Charles Dickens Chapter

Landport Masonic Hall - Lake Road - Portsmouth - Hampshire

1930 hours until 2330 hours.

Private Function

With a very select audience of non dancers it seemed quite a long evening. However they stayed until the end and we have a re-booking later in the year.

Saturday 28th January 2006 This was an afternoon gig!

90th Birthday Party for Mac Matthew's

Christchurch Royal British Legion - Bargates - Christchurch - Dorset

1200 hours until 1500 hours.

Private Function

Sadly Mac's health had deteriorated quite badly as the cancer had progressed so quickly.  This made the afternoon both a very sad and a happy occasion.  Understandably tears flowed during the afternoon and at the end of our show we had to admit it made us think long and hard as to what life is all about

Saturday 4th February 2006

Kempston Rotary Club 1060's -1970's evening

at

The Addison Centre - Howard Park - Kempston - Bedfordshire

Everybody Welcome

Mind Blowing!

Is the only way to describe the evening - Everything was as perfect as any entertainer could ever wish for.   Owen, the caretaker, was an absolute gentleman who bent over backwards to help us and although it was a good three hours drive from our offices here in Portsmouth it was worth it on all counts.    A re-booking for next years event taken at the end of the show proves, yet again, we must be doing something right....  Many Thanks Paul for having the confidence in booking Flickers Golden Oldies....

.... Below is a cut and paste of comments left on our guestbook within 12 hours of the gig ....

Just held an event for Rotary Club using Flickers. Best night we have had for years. Phil & Nikki did us proud. Will certainly use Flickers again

Wednesday 8th February 2006

Woolston over 55's club

Woolston Trades and Labour Club Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Everybody Welcome

Today, at the last minute, we stood in for a friend who was suffering with a very bad throat.   That isn't good when you earn your living as a singer.  As you can see by looking lower down this gig page, we are scheduled to entertain at this club in seven days time.  This could be a problem for most entertainers but not for "Flickers Golden Oldies" as we are so well received by the lovely Members of the "Woolston over 55's Club" who can't wait to have us back so soon.  The afternoon was, as always, a really lovely no pressure gig which was over all too soon.

Sunday 12th February 2006

Ockford Senior Citizens Club

Ockford Social Club Surrey

1400 hours until 1800 hours

Private Function

This was our second year entertaining the senior Citizens of The Ockford Social Club and as last year, it was an enviable gig.  It was well organised and very well supported and everything went off without a hitch.  Roll on next year, in fact roll on March this year (T.B.A.) when we return to provide the entertainment for their annual  tea dance.

Wednesday 15th February 2006

Woolston over 55's club

Woolston Trades and Labour Club Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Everybody Welcome

We came, We set up, We conquered - Enough said.  No but seriously folks, another fantastic afternoon was had by all.

Saturday 25th February 2006

Lindford and District W.M.C. - Liphook Road - Lindford

Golden Oldies Night

Theme Night

Everybody Welcome

What a really brilliant night we had at this, our favourite club - We pulled in six times the amount of people that frequent the venue on a normal Saturday night...... So good was the evening that we are in discussions with the committee for a possible Boxing Day afternoon booking.

Saturday 4th March 2006

Shaw Social Club - Newbury - Berkshire

Jessie and Bob's 40th Wedding Anniversary Party

Private Function

What a different evening this certainly was....

We rushed to Newbury to stand in for a friend of ours, Steve Kingsley.  He had contracted a very bad case of the flu virus that seems to be sweeping through the residents of Portsmouth at this present time.   As Steve had been booked from a previous gig he had done somewhere in Portsmouth, we checked with the clients, Bob and Jessie, that the type of show that we do would be agreeable to both them and there guests for their 40th Wedding Anniversary Party.   They were over the moon that we could step in at the last minute to be able to help out and we arrived and expected a brilliant night.  Oh,  how wrong we were!!!  Our Audience refused to join in with anything and everything we threw at them - We knew we were on a loser when Phil asked for a round of applause for Bob and Jessie and not one person clapped.  Abba's Dancing Queen produced "0" dancers and for us the evening just dragged on and on and on and on.  At the end of the night Jessie came up to thank us for a really great evening and apologised for the audiences apathy and assuring us that it was not our fault as we had done everything in our power to get them going. Oh well, what can you do when your best just isn't good enough.  NURSE, please would bring me my medication!

This is an add on - Monday Morning, (only 36 hours after the event) we received a telephone call from Jessie saying what a fantastic night it was and how much both she and Bob had enjoyed the entertainment we had provided !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday 11th March 2006

East Brighton Golf Club - Roedean road - Brighton

Ruth and Alan's 40th Wedding Anniversary Party

Private Function

The evening was superb with many of the request booklets being returned filled with genuine requests. We are proud to say we had, and played, every single request that was fired at us.  Many many compliments were received at the end of the evening, which meant we drove home with very large smiles on our faces.

Saturday 18th March 2006

H.M.S. Collingwood - Fareham - Hampshire

St. Peters Lodge 9182 - Masonic Ladies Festival.

Private Function

This was a fantastic night for all concerned, with al least 70 % of our audience being known to us from previous Masonic Functions.  Even the fire alarm sending us all out in the cold for five minutes didn't kill the fun and excitement that Flickers Golden Oldies had already generated.  So it was - Good Venue, Good Food, Good Staff and a Brilliant Evening (yet again)

Saturday 1st April 2006

Marwell Hall - Marwell Zoo

Surprise 60th Birthday Party for Marg Plumb

Colden Common - Hampshire

Private Function

How lovely to be travelling through the grounds of Marwell Zoo to get to the venue.  We drove extremely slow so as to enjoy the variety of animals that were coming out of their homes wondering who we were.  Marwell House is stunning and so were our audience.   After the obligatory couple of hours swapping stories, the buffet etc, they were all ready to party all night.

Saturday 22nd April 2006

Charles Dickens Lodge, Ladies Evening

Cosham Masonic Centre - Portsmouth - Hampshire

Private Function

What another brilliant evening we all had, apart from just one complaint - We have provided the entertainment for this lodge previously and had no doubts as to how the evening would go.  As it was, it far exceeded our expectations and apart from just one complaint, it was definitely an evening to remember.  And the complaint was - That people had gone onto the dance floor to dance to the quiet background music that we always provide at all Dinner dances !     Phil was speechless when a guy called John came up and moaned about it but as it was a request that was playing at the time, we had no option but to inform the complainant that there was no way the song was being terminated.

Saturday 29th April 2006

Waterlooville Golf Club - Cherry Tree Avenue - Cowplain

Lodge of Hope Ladies Festival

Private Function

So many friendly faces greeting us told us that the evening would be a success - and it certainly was.  We keep asking ourselves why such a high percentage of our work comes from Masonic functions and tonight we were informed why................ Apparently we are brilliant. (but then again, we already knew that)

Saturday 6th May 2006

Woolmer Forest Lodge, Ladies Evening

Bordon Masonic Centre - Bordon - Hampshire

Private Function

A welcome return to this lovely venue.  Although we had a very slow response at first, the dancers eventually took to the floor en masse, and that's where they stayed until the last waltz echoed through the venue.  The Highlight of the evening was certainly when Worshipful Bro. Charles Bailey and his good lady danced past the stage begging us to play something he didn't like so that they could have a sit down!!!

Wednesday 10th May 2006

Residents Singalong Afternoon

Charlemont Nursing & Residential Home - Charlemont Drive

Cams Hill - Fareham - Hampshire

1430 hours until 1630 hours

Private Function

This very hot day found us at Fareham for our first gig at the above venue and we know we will be back as it was a really enjoyable sing-a-long afternoon for all who attended.

Friday 12th May 2006

Annual   Ladies Festival

Botley Masonic Hall - Botley - Hampshire

Private Function

A Faultless night from start to finish.......... The Food, The Audience, The Bar Staff, The Atmosphere and the Entertainment were Absolutely spot on - We have said it before and we say it again.  Tonight was another normal night for us and a night that some entertainers can only dream of.

Wednesday 17th May 2006

Woolston over 55's club

Woolston Trades and Labour Club Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Everybody Welcome

This was a first gig since the sad loss of Eileen. Although she was there in spirit it was difficult coming to terms with her lovely smiling face not looking up at us as we performed.

Saturday 20th May 2006

Annual BBQ and Grand Prix Two day Shoot

Fareham Clay Pigeon Target club

Titchfield Lane, Wickham,  Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Private Function

Through no fault of ours, for us, this was an absolute disaster !

The whole of the floor area was so bouncy it made playing any records unthinkable and even playing CD's was an adventure we would rather not have experienced.   Our audience was made of of 39 % mature Adults, 3% Staff and the rest, Chavs and Chavettes.  Their only purpose for being there seemed to be to consume as much alcohol as was possible and do exactly as they pleased!!!!... except of course, to enjoy the professional entertainment we were booked to provide.  Phil appealed to their better nature asking that if anyone were to dance would they please use either end of the dance floor right away from us was totally ignored whereby we had to fade the music to explain once again about the bouncy floor making the CD's jump and of course our equipment sustaining damage because of it.  However the 39% of Mature adults loved everything we did and so all was not lost...

Saturday 3rd June

and

Sunday 4th June 2006

'We'll Meet Again' Exbury/HMS Mastodon Wartime Memories Weekend

Supporting

" The Apollo Big Band"

Exbury Gardens - Exbury - nr. Southampton - Hampshire

Everybody Welcome

This was a fantastic weekend for the both of us.  The weather was perfect without a cloud in the sky and the setting had to be seen to be believed.  So many of our audience were known to us from shows at Butlins, Haven and the many Masonic Dinner Dances that we do regularly, that it was hard for us to do any wrong.  If only we could make a good living doing just forties festivals our lives would be pretty well complete.

Wednesday 14th June 2006

Woolston over 55's club

Woolston Trades and Labour Club Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Everybody Welcome

Another fantastic afternoon at our Favourite Club " The Woolston over 55's" - It was a very hot afternoon so we both decided to wear our combat's  (As worn at Exbury "We'll Meet Again Festival 2006), instead of our normal attire, our Dinner wear.  A wise choice indeed as it just kept getting Hotter and Hotter as the afternoon wore on.

Saturday 17th June 2006

Waterlooville Golf Club

Cherry Tree Avenue, Cowplain, Hampshire

1930hrs 'till 2330hrs

Southsea Lodge 4071 Ladies Festival

Private Function

An absolutely perfect evening was had by all.  Even though the temperature was bordering on the tropical, nothing was going to stop this audience from dancing the night away.   Many thanks Ian for booking us yet again.

Friday 30th June 2006

"Coppertops",

Worcester, Worcestershire

Ray and Shirley Freeman (Golden Wedding Anniversary Party)

1930hrs 'till 2359hrs

Private Function

Coppertops was one of those venues that you have to see to appreciate the vast size of it.  The Freeman Family, Mark and his lovely Wife, Paul and his Lovely bubbly Wife, all of the Kids and last but not least, Ray and Shirley (Mum and Dad) who were all so nice and an absolute pleasure to work with.  Mark and Paul, Ray and Shirley's son's, had booked a Shirley Bassey Tribute and we were very impressed with the quality of their act.

Many Thanks Mark, Paul and all of the family, for the warm welcome you gave us and for the way you looked after us during our visit to "Coppertops"

As always on the longer trips, we made a day of it by taking the scenic route and as always, we visited a "Little Chef" restaurant for two excellent "Olympic Breakfasts" and used our two for one voucher, obtainable from the internet.

Saturday 8th July 2006

Elstead Royal British Legion (The Barn)

50th (Golden) Wedding Anniversary Party

For Betty and Rex Fields

1930 hrs. 'til 2300 hrs.

Private Function

A very warm evening in The Barn but quite a few managed to venture to the dance floor for a dance or two.  A very enjoyable evening indeed.

Sunday 9th July 2006

Itchen Rowing Club, Southampton, Hampshire

SURPRISE 70th Birthday Party

1900 hrs. 'til 2300 hrs.

Private Function

Tonight had to be the Hottest Night of the year!  Our audience were more interested in chatting than joining in with anything we did so we kept it laid back and the evening passed well, with many positive comments coming out way at the end.

Saturday 22nd July 2006

Lindford and District W.M.C. - Liphook Road - Lindford

Golden Oldies Theme Night

2020 hours until 23:20 hours

It was a very enjoyable evening although the tropical temperatures are not good for dancing.

Friday 11th August 2006

70th Birthday Party for Kathy Cottrell

Langstone Hotel - Hayling Island - Hampshire

1930 hours until 2330 hours

Private Function

It was a 100% mindblowing event that both the audience and the entertainers (that's us) enjoyed to the full.  The proof, if proof were needed, was when the client came up to inform us that we would be providing the entertainment for their 50th Wedding Anniversary, to be held in the same venue in August 2007.

We have since been contracted to provide the entertainment at Kathy and Reg. Cottrell's wedding anniversary party on the 20th October 2007 to be combine with their daughters 40th Birthday party.

Wednesday 16th August 2006

Woolston over 55's club

Woolston Trades and Labour Club Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Everybody Welcome

Another fantastic afternoon at our Favourite Club " The Woolston over 55's"

Yes. you have read this before as it is a cut and paste from last months event..........We really can do no worng with this Audience.  They are very special people and we look forward to our next vist.

Saturday 2nd September 2006

Lindford and District W.M.C. - Liphook Road - Lindford

70's, 60's, 50's, 40's Night

2020 hours until 2320 hours

Everybody Welcome

Tonight was certainly different - Two acts turned up tonight and as we were already setup, and we had a signed contract,  it was decided that the night would be ours... It was an average night, for a working mans club, but for us very dissapointing as our audience was less than ten people.

Saturday 23rd September 2006

Royal Court Hotel Coventry

from 21:00 'till 01:00

Invincible ' 82 WO & CPO's Association's Falklands re-union

Private Function

Tonight was the sort of evening that most entertainers can only dream of!!  Any gigs north of the M4 are always a long day away from home for the both of us.  However, our trip to Coventry to provide the entertainment for the "Invincible  WO & CPO's ' 82 Association's Falklands re-union" was, to say the least, evrything that is good about being  professional entertainers.   To give some idea as to just how good an evening it was, we have been rebooked to do it all over again at their next years 25th anniversary function.  Add to that the fact that during the evening the General Manger of The Hotel approached us with a view to providing the entertainment on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th December 2006 means we just have to once again say.... "We must be doing something right".

Trust us, we are very good!

Saturday 30th September 2006

Littleton Millennium Memorial  Hall - Littleton - Hampshire

70th Birthday Party for Dorothy Highfiled

2000 hours until 2300 hours

Private Function

This was an evening that will be remembered by the both of us for a very long time!  Many wonderful comments on our show and our selection of music together with plenty of dancing throughout the evening.  However, we felt it would have been a much better evening  had the booker taken the trouble to inform the Artiste's of the running order of the evening.  We also had to ask ourselves, "If the evening was enjoyed by so many of our audience, why on earth didn't they inform their faces of said fact".

Saturday 7th October 2006

Chilworth Parish Hall -  Southampton, Hampshire

Southampton Ramblers Annual Party

19:30 until Midnight

Private Function

A most enjoyable evening.

Saturday 21st October 2006

Elmore Sailing Club -  Lee on The Solent - Hampshire

Mrs Sexton's 60th Birthday / Retirement Party

20:00 until 23:30

Private Function

For us this booking was a Total Disaster due, yet again, to unruly, undisciplined and unsupervised young children.  Nuff Said!!

Friday 27th October 2006

Havant British Legion - Brockhampton Lane - Havant  - Hampshire

Surprise 60th Birthday for Angie ?

20:00 until 23:30

Private Function

This was a fantatstic booking made all the better, for us, by the fact that we shared the stage with "The Beatmakers".  We also found out during the evening that the Birthday Girl "ANGIE" was once lead vocalist with local Country Band "Blue Denim".

Donna, one of Angie's Daughter's,  is vocalist with "The Beatmakers" and so we were highly honoured to be the chosen entertainment by someone who is in showbusiness herself.

To be chosen to entertain at a former entertainer's party, by somebody who is a present day entertainer is about as good as it get's really.  But as we have said many many times, we are just so good................No Really, we are......

Saturday 4th November 2006

Colden Common Community Centre - Hampshire

A Combined 60th Birthday Party for Joan Thomas and 40th Wedding Aniversarry Party for both Joan and Bob Thomas.

Phil was Bob's Best man and both Bob, Joan and Phil were childhood friends right back to infant school days when Bob moved from london to Meonstoke in the beautiful county of Hampshire.

Bob and Joan had no knowledge of their surprise party as they entered the venue thinking they were going to a Guy Fawkes Night Party.   Lots of friends and family were there and a good night was had by all.

Friday 10th November 2006

Southwick Park Golf Club - Southwick - Hampshire

Hampshire

Drayton Park Bowls Club Annual Presentation Dinner Dnace

1930hrs 'till 2315hrs

Private Function

This was just a perfect night for everyone concerend and the dance floor was packed from start to finish
A rebooking for next years function say's it all I suppose!!
We even surprised ourselves tonight, we really were brilliant.. But not as brilliant as our lovely audience.

We have just received the contract for next years function at the same venue to be held on Saturday 10th November 2007 - Re-bookings really say it all don't they?

Saturday 11th November 2006

1960's to 1970's Theme Fancy Dress Charity evening

Organised by Kempston Rotary Club

to be held at

The Addison Centre - Howard Park - Kempston - Bedfordshire

Proceeds to be split between "Children in Need" and "The Royal British Legion"

Everybody Welcome

Paul, the organiser told us that his intention was to try and sell 165 tickets!  Paul had to have more tickets printed and the final total  was 225.  Tonight's gig was even more mind blowing than our first visit to The Addison Centre back in February.  We return to Kempston on the 17th February 2007 for a Valentines Evening when the music played will be from the 1940's through to the 1970's - and obviously with an emphasis on "LOVE"

Wednesday 15th November 2006

Woolston over 55's club

Woolston Trades and Labour Club Hampshire

1330 hours until 1500 hours

Everybody Welcome

This is an unbelievably satisfying booking each and every time we visit. During the afternoon we were given their 2007 diary and asked to fill in four equally spaced out dates so that other entertainers booked there could then fit around our choice of four dates in the gig book.  This really is one of the highest accolades any performer could wish for.

Saturday 18th November 2006

Surprise 70th Birthday Party

Botley Masonic Centre

2000 hours until 2320 hours

Private Function

This was a night that will be remembered forever, maybe longer.  Peter Dyke knew he had a Birthday party organised, with pig roast and all the trimmings.  He also was aware that all of his friends would be there to help him celebrate his 70th Birthday Party.    What he didn't know was that his Partner Sue, had booked us to provide just the sort of entertainment that Peter loves. His face, when he entered the venue and saw Flickers Golden Oldies setup and waiting to go, was an absolute picture to behold.   "Surprise Surprise"

Saturday 25th November 2006

Woolmer Forest Mark Lodge, Ladies Night

Bordon Masonic Centre - Bordon - Hampshire

1930 hours until 2359 hours

Private Function

Another Wonderful night, as always, at Bordon.  The food was above excellent as were our audience.  However, the evening was spoilt just a tad by having to pack up far too quickly.  We never take more than 30 minutes from the time we play our last song until we are clear of the building.  We feel this should not be a problem with any one who books us.  Tonight, for whatever reason, we were being bullied into getting packed up and ushered out of the building far too soon. This resulted in Phil experiencing a bad back for the rest of the week and a bad taste in our mouth with reference our next visit to this venue.

Friday 1st December 2006

Southwick Park Golf Club, Southwick

Hampshire

Southwick Park Golf Club Veterans Association 2004 Christmas Dinner Dance

1930hrs 'till 2330hrs

(This will be our fourth consecutive year entertaining at this Function)

Goddard Assesment Wards Annual Xmas Party.

1400hrs until 1600hrs

Private Function

This gig has been postponed and will be rescheduled in 2007

Friday 15th December 2006

Chichester Singers Christmas Party.

Chichester Assembly Rooms

1900hrs until 2300hrs

Private Function

This was an evening that dreams are made of.  Background music, during the meal.. The lights were dimmed and it was dancing the night away until the clock on the wall told us it was time to go home.

It was indeed a fabulous end to our 2006 bookings..... Thanks a Million Jacinta and all of the Chichester Singers who attended.

Saturday 16th December 2006

Over 60's Club, 1960's Christmas Party

Aldershot.

2000hrs until 2330hrs

Private Function

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were left with no other option than to withdraw our services within hours of the above event.  It became apparent that the event was not a 60's night nor or indeed was it an evening for over 60's people.......

For legal reasons we are unable to give any further details at this moment in time.

However, being responsible professionals, we took the trouble to visit the venue just to make quite sure that alternative  entertainment had been arranged and that the party was going as planned.  We are pleased to reort that the party was a total success and so we slipped away satisfied that the decision we had made had been the correct one.

Wednesday 27th December 2006

Renee Prior's 80th Birthday Party.

Royal British legion Club

Lucknow Street - Portsmouth

1200hrs until 1600hrs

Private Function

A Fabulous afternoon was has by all.  Today we met, and entertained, a family who were, what can only be described as, a 100% perfect audience.  From our arrival to our departure we were treated with utmost respect, and the love and happiness that was apparent in the venue made this a perfect gig to finish off yet another really good year for Flickers Golden Oldies.
